Isa Herrera, MSPT, CSCS has successfully treated over 14,000 cases of Pelvic Floor Pain Dysfunction and offers valuable insight on what Zosia shared today at the Women’s Maker’s Conference.
At The Makers Content 2017, Zosia Mamet, an actress and star on the HBO original series, “Girls,” spoke at the 2017 Maker’s Conference in Palos Verde, California and shared about her journey Pelvic Floor Pain Dysfunction. During her talk, she talked about how she has dealt and responded to it.
As a result of her speech, Refinery29, a popular and growing women’s lifestyle website, and Glamour Magazine released articles that shared her story of how she battled with Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. You can read the articles here:
Zosia’s story and the two articles started to gain traffic online, Macaela Mackenzie, a journalist I have worked with in the past reached out to see if I was available to comment on pelvic floor dysfunction. My comments were included in an article in Women’s Health Magazine. Kudos to Macaela for getting the word out there and I am always happy to be part of this conversation! If you have been following me for any length of time, you know that I have made it my life mission to conquer Pelvic Floor Pain Dysfunction. Currently, this epidemic is affecting close to 30 million women across the United States and I am determined to help as many women as I can by educating Health Professionals on how to correctly diagnose and treat this condition so more women like Zosia can experience their healing and share their experience with the world.
Her talk was moving and powerful, and It is so encouraging for me to see that this painful and debilitating condition is starting to get some acknowledgment and recognition on the national stage.

In her opening remarks, Zosia came out and said her doctor, one of the top Gynecologists in the Los Angeles area, told her, “I think you’ll have to come to terms with the fact that you will have to live the rest of you life in pain.”
I can’t tell you how many times I have heard that from women who have come to me, as their last hope. It still amazes me to this day that some of the most highly rated doctors and professionals who were educated at esteemed and prestigious educational institutions continue to give this type of diagnosis.
I absolutely loved the way Zosia combined her stylish elegance with brutal honesty and described how she was treated by “esteemed doctors.” What happened to her has happened to many, and it is not right; we are doing something about this.
A couple of Zosia’s comments caught my attention and are so relevant to this chronic problem that women today face. First she said,“An incredibly long journey to figure out what was wrong with me, much much longer than it should have been.”
And she went on to say, “Every time my tests came back negative, it still meant I didn’t have an answer to what was causing my insane urinary frequency, unbearable pain during sex, and a vagina that felt like someone stuck a hot poker up it.”
These two quotes summarize what I hear all the time from patients. If a woman does get a proper diagnosis, it takes forever. It took Zosia six long grueling years. Also, when women are given prototypical tests, and they come back negative, they are ultimately told that it is all in there head and they are as Zosia was told; crazy.
We as medical professionals should be alarmed, astounded and ashamed that this renowned actress or any woman for that matter has to needlessly go through this type of physical, mental and emotional pain before they are finally properly diagnosed and treated.
Zosia also said the recognized doctor told her, “living with chronic pain is not that bad.” Come on, are you serious? This is unacceptable, and we will not stand for it.
As we speak, I am in the process of actively educating health professionals to be able to accurately diagnosis, treat and bring healing to this condition that plagued Zosia and continues to inhibit the lifestyle of countless women all across the nation.
