Why Aren’t Women as Happy as They Were Before… and What to Do About It

The evidence is striking – women report being less happy today than they were 35 years ago, especially relative to the corresponding happiness rates for men. (Wolfers and Stevenson) While many factors affect our levels of joyfulness, such as work stressors, family issues, and the old- pan-demic; one thing scientists have been able to find out so far–a really simple change you could try right now  to start feeling happy–is smiling

The truth is that we can shift ourselves out of a bad mood by putting a smile on our faces. I’ve done that and it WORKS!  Yes I know it’s hard to switch things when we are angry, triggered, or anxious but when we smile, it can make us feel a whole lot better, and NOW there’s scientific evidence to prove this. 

Smiling is the new medicine for women who want to naturally boost their happy hormones. 

Smiling can:

  • Improve your mood and make you feel happy
  • Lower your stress levels, which protects our bodies from illness while prolonging life span by slowing down aging processes like wrinkles or gray hair (or both!)
  • Boost your immunity
  • Help you feel less pain and release endorphins 
  • Help you live a longer life!
  • Release happy hormones like dopamine and serotonin.  

In my personal experience, I’ve found that friendly, confident people smile all the time. They’re always in a good mood and have beautiful attitudes about life! 

Here Are Six Creative Ways To Make Yourself Happier By Smiling More- Even If You Don’t Feel Like It. 

1- Happy Lady Parts
When you feel strong, toned, and healthy “Down There,” it makes for happier days. So please don’t skip out on your pelvic floor self-care routine! A woman’s pelvic floor should never be ignored but instead cared for because this part of the body has such immense power when working in tandem with our other muscles. The pelvic floor keeps us upright during everyday tasks like standing up from sitting or getting into bed at night after long hours spent working outside. A strong pelvic floor also enhances orgasms and keeps the bladder strong. There are simple exercises that women can do at home to keep their Lady parts happy and healthy! 2- Gratitude 
As we all know, the morning is one of those rare moments when everything seems fresh and new. Why not make this time worth looking forward to by practicing gratitude? Start your day with an attitude filled with what you are grateful for instead of checking social media or scrolling through photos from last night’s party — then do something fun because there isn’t anything better than getting showered while outside.

3- Nature Heals:
Nature is a powerful wellness modifier. Spend time in it and you will see how much better your day goes! Mow your lawn, plant some flowers or just take an hourly walk outside each morning-it’ll make all the difference to feel happy inside out. As you walk in nature SMILE! 

 

 

4- Help Others:
There are so many ways to smile on your face, but one of the best and most rewarding is helping others. It doesn’t matter what you do for them or how much time it takes out of your day; as long as there’s some self-care involved in this process, everything will be just fine! A simple way I’ve found that helps me take better care of myself while still being able to share with those around me who need our help too? Try making sure each night before bedtime saps up all energy levels by doing something fun like watching an inspirational movie together (or even reading). 

5- Take a Break from Social Media:
Social media can be an addiction, and the more you use it, the less happy your life becomes. This is because of two reasons: firstly, social networking takes up a lot of time that could have been spent doing other things such as sleeping or spending quality one on ones with friends; secondly, by constantly being connected through these platforms, people feel less part of something bigger and lose their focus and purpose.

Instead of scrolling, explore what gives you a sense of purpose and how to pursue this purpose to give your life a greater meaning. In short, it is essential to spend more time focusing on and doing the things that bring us joy rather than spending a ton of time on social media where FOMO is a real thing. 

6- Practice the “Super Smile” for 90 Seconds. This is a full smile, and I mean a FULL smile that you hold for 90 seconds. A smile is so powerful that it hurts to do it. Smiling releases dopamine, serotonin, and neuropeptides that boost happiness and help with brain health. To tap into your happy hormones, I recommend you do the Super Smile once a day for 7 days!

The science is in, and smiling will make you happy and there’s no denying it. When we grin, our brains trick themselves into thinking positive feelings—like happiness or joyfulness-which then spurs a genuine sense of bliss within us! 

The smile challenge is on!

Make it a point to smile no less than 3 times a day for the whole next week. If you can smile all day long and focus on how it changes you inside. 

Let’s keep shining bright like stars; although we may not be able to see them all due to darkness outside, inside, there’ll always remain light from within, and it all starts with a smile.
